598 Construction Contractor Analysis. I or II; 3cr. Characteristics of construction industry; project facility delivery process; contractor failure; surety bonding; owner-contractor prequalification; construction insurance, and decision-making. P:Jrst. Russell.

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Ideally, to understand basic accounting and finance principles. Required basic understanding of design and construction processes.

Course objectives

Develop a basic understanding of the elements associated with the construction industry, specifically within the area of prequalification and construction contractor analysis.
Introduce decision techniques relevant for modeling the contractor prequalification domain.
Develop a strong conceptual base and specific skills in the area of contractor prequalification through individual exercises and a project.
Explore other domains within Construction Management that are prime candidates for application of the presented decision modeling techniques.

Characteristics of construction environment; Surety bonding; Owner-contractor prequalification; Monitoring; Total Quality Management

Class/laboratory schedule

Once per week for 2hr. 30min.

RELATED CEE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: Provide experiences in realistic civil and environmental engineering design and construction practice. RELATED CEE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES: Outcome 4: CEE students should experience the stages of group development by working on an open-ended team project. Outcome 12: CEE students should be able to perform an economic analysis of alternative CEE solutions and be able to determine the life-cycle cost of a CEE design process.

Assessment of student progress toward course objectives

Case studies and individual project are designed to assess a student's knowledge of topics presented in class.
