Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Students entering this class are expected to be able to design simple reinforced concrete members and to construct appropriate shear and moment envelopes for member design based on estimated loads.

Course objectives

The objective of the class is have students understand the processes used in designing and assembling buildings using precast/prestressed concrete members.

This course primarily serves students in the department. The information below describes how the course contributes to the undergraduate program objectives.

This course reinforces the department objective of providing comprehensive education in the fundamentals of engineering.

Course outcomes:

Students are expected to be able to complete the design of a building structure using precast components, and to describe their design process in a written design report including construction plans and methods. (Departmental outcomes 1.2,2.0,2.4,6.1)

Assessment of student progress toward course objectives

Student assessment is through grading of a term design project and homework.
