Catalog Description

405 Digital Photogrammetry. (Crosslisted with EnvirSt 405.) I; 1cr. Introduction to digital photogrammetry. Technology for deriving and acquiring digital images. Image processing algorithms that can be used to display and locate control points. Algorithms for image correlation and elevation calculations. P:Civ Engr 404. Scarpace.

Course Prerequisite(s)

CEE 659

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

A course in Photogrammetry is required.
A course in Analytical Photogrammetry is suggested.
Knowledge of the colinearity equations and Aerial Triangulation is recommended.

Paul R. Wolf and Bon DeWitt, Elements of Photogrammetry with Applications in GIS, Published by McGraw-Hill, Inc., 3ed Edition, 2000

Course objectives

The objective of this 5 week module is expose the student to the principals and practice of softcopy photogrammery. The hands-on experience in the computer laboratory will allow the student to work with all major components of a softcopy photogrammetric system. The student will be able to judge when and where this type of technology will be a cost-effective mapping tool.

Class/laboratory schedule

2 50 minute lectures per week.
1 2hr laboratory per week

This course serves students in a variety of engineering majors. The information below describes how the course contributes to the college's educational objectives.

Understand the methods, instrumentation systems, and accuracy/precision requirements for making measurements of basic and derived physical quantities. Ability to select an appropriate solution method for a defined problem, obtain and verify that the solution satisfies all conditions, determine the behavior or response of the system being analyzed from the solution that was obtained, and state the limits of the solution. Students should be able to assemble accurate and well-organized technical presentations that convey the essentials of engineering processes or plans, and understand the context and purpose of a presentation as appropriate for a particular audience. Students should also possess general organiztion skills as a basis for planning efficient engineering processes as ell as for effective communication. Students should recognize the need for life-long learning and have skills that will enable them to engage in life- long learning.
