Course Prerequisite(s)

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

This course enables students to obtain academic credit for time spent away from school participating in a full-time cooperative work experience during their studies. There are no academic prerequisites besides Sophomore level standing. Students can acquire a maximum of three credits for the course at the rate of one credit per semester cooperative experience. Students are required to submit a report to their advisor after each semester for which credit is claimed detailing the nature of their work experience and its relationship to their course of studies.

This course contributes primarily to the students' knowledge of engineering topics, and does provide design experience.

Students gain a first-hand experience with civil engineering practice and gain an appreciation of economic, environmental, ethical, political, social, health and safety, manufacturability (constructibility) and sustainability issues as they pertain to civil engineering practice. The degree to which each of these a particular student obtains exposure depends on the individual and the place of work.
