Construction Management Option Courses

Undergraduate students pursuing the Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program follow a slightly different curriculum than students who are majoring in Civil Engineering without the CEM option. Although the course work and requirements are similar, there are still some important differences within the applied engineering requirement.

Within the applied engineering requirements, students in the CEM option need to take courses from four categories: (1) Management, (2) Internship/Co-op, (3) Business, and (4) Construction Materials.

Under the “Management” category, students MUST take:

  1. CEE 491 (Legal Aspects of Engineering )
  2. CEE 492 (Integrated Project Estimating and Scheduling )

Under the “Internship/Co-op” category, students MUST complete two credits of either internship or co-op experience. The experiences must be registered through Engineering Career Services in order to count for credit towards the degree.

Under the “Business” category, student MUST take two of the following courses in business:

  1. Acct 300 (Accounting Principles)
  2. Finance 300 (Introduction to Finance)
  3. MHR 300 (Organizational Behavior)
  4. Real Estate 611 (Residential Property Development)

Under the “Construction Materials” category, students MUST take one of the following courses:

  1. CEE 445 (Steel Structures I )
  2. CEE 447 (Concrete Structures I )

Always refer to the Curriculum Checklist (PDF file) and the Curriculum Guide (PDF file) for your catalog year (the year you were accepted into the CEE program) to find detailed information about your course requirements. And of course, see your advisor every semester!
