By 2040, the world will have 9 billion people, 2 billion more than today, and global economic output will be much larger than today. There are currently 1.3 billion people in the world who lack electricity, and 2.5 billion who lack access to modern fuels. The talk will discuss ExxonMobil's 2014 Outlook for Energy, outlining the dual challenge of providing reliable and affordable energy required to lift billions out of poverty and support economic growth, while at the same time addressing the risks of climate change. The talk will also cover the difficulty in achieving a dramatic reduction in the carbon intensity of the vast global energy system, and demonstrate the need for ongoing reinvestment in oil and gas development, despite rapid growth in renewable energy.

    CEE/GLE Student Major Declaration Celebration

    Varsity Hall, Union South

The Student Major Declaration Celebration celebrates our new students who have recently declared CEE or GLE as their major. New students will get an overview of the different CEE and GLE disciplines and have a chance to talk with student organizations about getting involved. Alumni will also be there to welcome these new students into the CEE and GLE families and to start building a connection between students and alumni. This event offers a great opportunity for students to meet practicing civil and geological engineers as they begin to build their network and seek mentors who can also provide career advice. Please join us for this exciting event!
