Benjamin Smith Reynolds, manufacturer, was born and educated in
Wisconsin. After he and Charles F. Burgess incorporated the Burgess
Battery Company in 1917, Reynolds devoted his life to that company,
its later affiliates, and the Research Products Corporation. From 1948
until his death in 1954, Reynolds was a member of the university's
Board of Visitors. As a fitting memorial and as a symbol of Reynolds'
belief in the power of new ideas for industry development, this award
is presented to the faculty member who contributes most to the
instruction of engineering students.
