The Socratic method really gives you an opportunity to identify what concepts are not clear in the minds of the students. And what I really like about it is the fact that it may take you off on a tangential path which is interesting to the students but not necessarily following directly from the lecture material. And often we learn more from a wrong answer in these situations than we do from a right answer. And I tell the students as we go through the give and take of the discussion, I don't hold wrong answers against them because they provide us with a learning experience.
