The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering has elected Biomedical Engineering Professor David Beebe a fellow. He was inducted into the AIMBE College of Fellows at the AIMBE annual event February 27 through March 2 in Washington, D.C. Beebe’s research centers on understanding physical and biological cellular behavior. The institute was founded in 1991 to establish a clear and comprehensive identity for the field of medical and biological engineering.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has named Ouweneel-Bascom Professor of Mechanical Engineering Sanford Klein a fellow, an honor celebrating significant engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession. Klein is a recognized authority on solar energy, weather data and refrigeration systems. The honor recognizes his contributions to research and education, especially with regard to the engineering equation solver software he developed.
The United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research (USUCGER) has awarded Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Tuncer B. Edil the 2007 USUCGER Distinguished Service Award to recognize his dedication, contributions and service to the USUCGER community. Edil has conducted research on industrial byproducts like shredded automobile tires, foundry by-products and coal-combustion fly ash, as well as on coastal erosion, landslides and shore recession. In other research, he is studying compatibility of geosynthetic clay liners and other geosynthetics with acidic mine waste.
