Students at Wingra School, Madison

Engineering student and UW Trebuchet Team leader Silas Bernardoni spent several days with 2nd and 3rd grade students at Wingra School in Madison as the kids explored the physics of simple machines.

In addition to throwing tennis balls with a small trebuchet on the school's front lawn, Bernardoni helped the class design, build and launch trebuchets made of foam, straws, dowel, chopsticks and hot glue. The children were able to evaluate and modify their devices to attain surprising accuracy.
