GIFT REPORT 2005: Program enrichment and enhancement

When the university embarks on a fund-raising campaign, perhaps the most obvious source of support is its alumni. But for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, corporate donations complement alumni support and give it an extra margin of excellence in a time of reduced state resources, says CEE Professor and Chair Jeffrey Russell. "The long-term quality of the department will depend upon support of industry and our alumni," he says.

Among the department's industry supporters are construction company Payne and Dolan Inc. and alumni Ned (BS '59), Kurt (BS '85) and David (BS '89) Bechthold; architecture and engineering firm Mead & Hunt and alumnus Raj Sheth (MS '72); water-treatment systems supplier US Filter and alumnus Mike Doyle (MS '81) and others; builder M. A. Mortenson; consulting, construction and maintenance solutions provider Boldt Construction and alumnus Oscar Boldt (BS '48); engineering firm Strand Associates; Embassy Construction Corp. and business alumnus Jerry McGinnis (BS '52), Affiliated Engineers and alumnus John Nelson (MSME '76), and mechanical and fire-protection contractor J. F. Ahern Co.
