| GIFT REPORT 2005: Creating the future | |

Dear Alumni and Friends,
In our travels around the country with Dean Peercy, he speaks often about the significant, rapid changes occurring in our world. Global trends in technology development, industry, economics and demographics are having an effect on all of us.
This theme of change could not be more appropriate as we write to you from a campus undergoing the beautiful transformation of spring, the beginning of an exciting evolution of the old "Sawtooth" space into a state-of-the-art addition for the Mechanical Engineering Building, and on a smaller scale, to share an improved format for our annual College of Engineering Gift Report and Honor Roll of Contributors.
New this year in the GIFT REPORT and Honor Roll:
In this report, you will read wonderful stories of just some of the recent gifts received from our benefactors. This past year, gifts were made in support of all of the college's development priorities (see below for table of objectives for Create The Future: The Wisconsin Campaign).
Undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships enable talented, hard-working students to focus their time and energy on what they should be focusing on here at the university: academics. Funds for chairs and professorships help the university attract and retain some of the world’s best instructors and researchers. Gifts providing program support make possible the continuation of successful efforts and the launching of new initiatives. Contributions for facilities ensure that the people who come here to learn, to teach, and to do research have an environment to work in that is up to date, functional and safe.
In 2004, the University of Wisconsin Foundation received 6,950 gifts totaling $9,289,676 in support of the College of Engineering. We are grateful to all donors for their participation and generosity.
In the year ahead, we invite you to consider how you can help create the future for engineering education at UW-Madison. We encourage you to make a gift or pledge in an amount and for a purpose that is special and meaningful to you. Please contact us at the University of Wisconsin Foundation. We will be happy to share more information about opportunities for making a philanthropic investment in your alma mater.
